Following President Trump's declaration that Iran has agreed to permanently keep the Strait of Hormuz open, Republican Congressman Marlin Stutzman of Indiana expressed a positive outlook on the development. Speaking on CNN, Stutzman characterized the agreement as a beneficial outcome for all involved parties.
The President's announcement on Friday afternoon stated Iran's concession to "never close the Strait of Hormuz again." This declaration was preceded by a busy morning of news, which included the reopening of the crucial waterway.
According to a report from NewsNation's Kellie Meyer, who spoke directly with President Trump, he also indicated that Iran "agreed to everything" in the ongoing negotiations with the United States. Meyer's report further detailed Trump's assertion that the United States would retrieve enriched uranium from sites that were targeted in "Operation Midnight Hammer" in June of the previous year. When questioned directly by Meyer about Iran's agreement to cease uranium enrichment, Trump reportedly affirmed, "Yes, they agreed to stop."
The Strait of Hormuz is a strategically vital chokepoint for global oil shipments.
