Singer Sabrina Carpenter has been granted a temporary restraining order against a man she alleges has engaged in persistent stalking behavior. Court documents filed in Los Angeles indicate the order was issued against William Applegate, who is thirty-one years old. Carpenter's legal representatives detailed a series of escalating incidents, stating that Applegate first attempted to gain unauthorized entry to her Los Angeles residence last month. This initial attempt was reportedly followed by two additional instances where he returned to the property, further intensifying Carpenter's concerns for her safety.
Carpenter, who is twenty-seven years old, provided a sworn declaration detailing the profound impact these incidents have had on her well-being. She explicitly stated that Applegate’s actions have caused her "significant and ongoing fear" for her personal safety, emphasizing the severe psychological distress she has experienced. Her declaration further elaborated that his "pattern of stalking, trespassing, and surveillance has caused me severe and ongoing emotional distress," highlighting the pervasive nature of his alleged conduct and its detrimental effect on her daily life.
The temporary restraining order imposes strict conditions on Applegate. He is now legally mandated to maintain a distance of at least one hundred yards from Carpenter at all times. This protective perimeter extends to her home, any vehicles she uses, and her workplace, ensuring a broad measure of personal space and security. Furthermore, the order explicitly prohibits him from contacting her, either directly through personal communication or indirectly through third parties or social media. This comprehensive prohibition aims to eliminate all avenues of communication and harassment. A court hearing has been scheduled in the near future to consider the possibility of converting this temporary order into a full, permanent restraining order, which would offer long-term protection.
The singer is widely recognized for her successful music career, having achieved considerable commercial success on both sides of the Atlantic. She has garnered several top three hits in both the United States and the United Kingdom, solidifying her status as a prominent figure in the music industry. Her recent chart-topping singles, such as "Espresso" and "Please Please Please," have further elevated her profile and expanded her global fan base. This increased public visibility unfortunately sometimes comes with unwanted attention, making such protective measures a necessary step for public figures.
