Starlink has implemented a new monthly rental fee of $10 for its hardware. This marks a change from its previous model of one-time hardware purchases. The hardware includes a satellite signal terminal and a home router.
Residential ordering pages now display a $0 upfront hardware cost. The $10 monthly kit fee is in addition to the internet service charges. Starlink recently increased its internet service prices by $5 to $10 per month. Service plans now range from $55 per month for 100 megabits per second (Mbps) to $130 per month for the "Max" tier, which offers up to 400 Mbps.
Hardware rental is currently available in select countries and is limited to residential service plans. Customers who rent hardware cannot pause their service. Reports indicate the $10 rental fee is rolling out globally for new customers in several countries, including the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom.
Starlink's support articles state that customers can switch from renting to purchasing hardware. Starlink kits are also available for purchase through retailers. Historically, Starlink's hardware prices have varied, launching at $499 in 2020 and later increasing to $599 in 2022. Regional pricing of $299 or $499 was introduced in 2024.
Starlink has also offered various promotions, including free hardware with specific service commitments. The company's pricing strategy has been dynamic since its inception. Starlink generated $3.26 billion of SpaceX's $4.69 billion revenue in the first three months of 2026.
